Gender-affirming care for minors in Kansas is now illegal.

All healthcare providers — whether they be physical or mental — are banned from even speaking about trans-related issues with minors.

Every employee that works for the state or receives some kind of funding from the state is now subject to discipline and lawsuits for doing anything that can be construed as “promoting” social transition.

What comes next?

Trans Lawrence Coalition is working alongside local and national organizations to provide mutual aids to families impacted by this ruling in order to maintain access to care. Any youth currently on hormones will be able to access them in Kansas through the end of the year.

We strongly encourage attending the Southern Equality town hall that is happening tonight if you are impacted. You can find the information here. This town hall will be recorded.

I’m a professional. What can I do?

Resist it.

Is it risky? Yes. But ending oppressive laws has never happened from simply obeying them with no push back.

Be mindful. Be careful. But we need you to resist it.

What is TLC doing?

In addition to mutual aid, we are working with others in the community on a vigil for Sam Nordquist and a TDOV protest. If you are interested in either, please reach out to us.

We also still have our regularly programmed social events, such as our Trans Gym Nights and Board Game Nights. Karaoke will return next month.

A Word of Hope

Although SB 63 is law, a number of laws like it are currently being challenged in court and have even won those challenges.

For families of youth who are impacted by this, you can absolutely take this to court if you can prove that it has caused harm.

For professionals impacted by this law, resisting it can give way to a court case that can eventually overturn it. This is an infringement on your first amendment rights and ethical obligations. Stand firm and fight back.
