SB 76: RECAP
On February 19, the Kansas Senate voted to advance SB 76 to the House.
SB 76:
- Bans school employees from using a trans student’s chosen name or pronouns without permission from the student’s guardians,
- Protects school employees who refuse to use a trans student’s chosen name or pronouns, even if their guardians gave permission, and
- Prohibits schools from punishing students who refuse to use a trans classmate’s chosen name and pronouns.
Schools will be subjected to lawsuits for violating any section of SB 76.
WHAT NOW?
The House Committee on Education is holding a hearing on the bill on Tuesday, March 4 at 1:30 PM in Room 218-N.
